Academy Negotiation Challenge is launched Nationwide
Students from Peter Jones Enterprise Academies across the UK will be putting their powers of negotiation to the test as they battle it out to win The CIPS 2013 Negotiation Challenge, which was launched this week.
This national challenge, organised by the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supplying (CIPS), which has been designed to raise the profile of procurement and supply as a career choice across the UK, will equip PJEA students with a ’negotiation toolkit’, helping them to perfect their skills of persuasion and influence in business.
Now in its second year, the challenge will run throughout January with students from a range of our Academies across the UK competing against each.
As part of the competition, students will present their findings from a set of different business scenarios to a panel of experts including a CIPS Mentor. The winning team from each Academy will then submit a video of their presentation by the 25 January 2013.
Alice Barnard, Chief Executive of the Peter Jones Foundation and the Peter Jones Enterprise Academy, commented:
“The Peter Jones Academy is on mission to train and motivate young people through its unique ‘learning by doing approach’. The CIPS Negotiation Challenge is just one of the many learning experiences that gives students the opportunity to put everything they have learnt into practice, so they are equipped with the skills, confidence and entrepreneurial mindset to give them the edge in the workplace.
“The Challenge offers our students an excellent opportunity to explore and develop fundamental business skills which will be enormously valuable for their future careers. The Challenge builds on everything the students are learning and gives them the chance to hone their skills in a competitive environment.”
Six teams will be selected to go through to the grand final, being held on 4 February 2013 at Rolls-Royce Learning and Career Development Centre in Derby, where students will tour the Rolls-Royce production line before taking part in inter-team challenges and presenting their conclusions to an expert panel.
David Noble, CIPS Chief Executive, said:
“Good negotiation skills are not only essential in business but are also important life skills to learn and develop. We set out the CIPS Negotiation Challenge to help young people further their business skills, whilst also providing them with insight into the exciting opportunities available to procurement professionals.
“We are delighted to be working with the Peter Jones Enterprise Academy for a second year and look forward to seeing the students’ progress throughout the competition.”
