Level 5 Higher Apprenticeship in Business Innovation and Growth

The Peter Jones Foundation developed the first Level 5 Higher Apprenticeship in Business Innovation and Growth in October 2012, along with partners including SFEDI, Pearson and FSB.

This unique apprenticeship is currently delivered by the Peter Jones Enterprise Academy at Westminster Kingsway College. The apprentices earn while they learn and through the apprenticeship, develop business acumen and skills, combined with an understanding and practical application of innovation, which they apply in the workplace on a daily basis.

The Level 5 apprentices have worked in a range of businesses and organisations, including SMEs such as Waltham Estates and large corporate companies like Nielsen, Grant Thornton and Jessops. The last group of Level 5 apprentices were registered September 2016.

The Government appointed Doug Richard to review all aspects of apprenticeships, from their cost through to the curriculum, to make sure they met the needs of employers as the recipient of apprentices. The Richard Review was published in 2012 and as a result the Government has refocused how apprenticeships are devised and funded. These new apprenticeship standards are called ‘trailblazers’ and are replacing the older apprenticeship frameworks, which are being retired. This includes the Level 5 Higher Apprenticeship in Business Innovation and Growth.

The new apprenticeship trailblazers and standards are currently being developed by a panel of employers and you can find the current list of approved trailblazer standards here.

Due to the new trailblazer programme, applications for the Level 5 Higher Apprenticeships in Business Innovation and Growth are closed. To find out more about apprenticeships please click on the appropriate link below.
