Background on Peter Jones CBE

Peter Jones CBE is one of Britain’s best-known and respected entrepreneurs. He owns a portfolio of businesses ranging from telecoms and leisure to publishing, media and recruitment. In 2009, Peter was made a CBE (Commander of the British Empire) for services to business, enterprise and young people.

The early years….

In 1998, Peter founded a highly successful telecoms group, providing wireless mobile solutions to a broad range of clients. Awarded The Times/Ernst & Young Emerging Entrepreneur of the Year back 2002. Today, Peter’s business interests generate sales of more than £300 million and employ more than 1,000 people.
He has personally invested in more than 50 businesses spanning publishing, new media, television, entertainment, food products, the environment and product design in a varied and growing portfolio, which nurtures and develops emerging entrepreneurs and innovative products and services in the UK and internationally.

The making of a media star….

In 2005, Peter made his first appearance as a panelist on the BBC2 television show “Dragons’ Den”. Described by The Sunday Telegraph “the fieriest dragon in the den”, now, 11 series later, Peter has made many investments on the programme, including Wonderland Magazine and the show’s most successful investment, Reggae Reggae Sauce, pitched by the charismatic Levi Roots. In last series of Dragons’ Den, Peter invested in Love Da Popcorn, a new brand of flavoured popcorn.

He is also a best selling author as a result of his book, Tycoon that was published in 2008.The Financial Times described him as “the voice of lucrative experience” .

Most recently, Peter shot the first series of his latest TV show ‘Peter Jones Meets…’ for the BBC, in which he meets with some of the country’s most successful entrepreneurs to get into the DNA of what made them millionaires.

Nurturing entrepreneurial talent…..

Peter has spent a large amount of his time focusing his attention on unlocking Britain’s young entrepreneurial talent by revolutionising enterprise education in Britain through the Peter Jones Foundation, of which His Royal Highness The Duke of York, is Patron.

In 2009 he successfully launched the Peter Jones Enterprise Academy which today has over 30 colleges nationwide and is the first-ever UK educational organisation dedicated solely to enterprise and entrepreneurship and training the next generation of aspiring entrepreneurs.

As part of his mission to put enterprise at the heart of education, in 2012, Peter launched a brand new campaign –Tycoon in Schools. With the ultimate goal getting a business started in every school in the UK, the Peter Jones Foundation provided schools with up to £1000 of investment to students so they could start and run a business during the month of November. It was a huge success and this year’s initiative is supported by the Prime Minister and is likely to be the largest schools enterprise initiative in 2013.

As part of Peter’s commitment to leading enterprise education in the UK, the Peter Jones Foundation has recently launched a brand new Higher Apprenticeship in Innovation and Growth. Developed in partnership with Pearson and other educational partners, the Apprenticeship enables young people to earn while they learn, while nurturing ‘intrapreneurial’ and confident business leaders, who will energise a company from within.

Leading the fight back for the British High Street…..

In 2013, Peter demonstrated his personal commitment to the resurgence of the British High Street, when he relaunched 36 Jessops stores across the country following a multi-million £ investment to revitalise the largest photographic imaging store in Europe.
